The rectangular duct fans are designed for more demanding air handling applications where higher pressure drops are expected to be overcome. As already mentioned, in this category you will find fans that are suitable for industrial applications and are therefore generally not quiet. In this category, however, you will also find fans for square ducts with insulated housing that achieve acceptable noise parameters.
